“FREE LOTTO COMPANY (Sophia Halendale, Khan ArShad Amin, John Peters, etc.)” is a label abused by several fake lotteries (“419” scams) in Nigeria, the Netherlands and the UK. We believe that more than one group of scammers may be using the “FREE LOTTO COMPANY” label.
It is not to be confused with FreeLotto.com (a website often mentioned by the scammers) which is not connected to these frauds. Instead the real freelotto.com collects email addresses for sending commercial advertising to in exchange for the chance to win prizes. If you didn’t register with freelotto.com before receiving one of these winning notifications that mention the site then it’s a scam. The real FreeLotto.com uses very misleading advertising and we don’t recommend that you reply to their emails either.
In any case, a winning notification is a scam if any of the following is true:
- You supposedly won because the your email address was picked from a large number of addresses.
- You had never heard of the company.
- You are asked to keep the winnings secret until the prize has been paid.
- You are asked to contact an agent who uses a free webmail address or a mobile phone number (examples: +44 70 / +31 6 / +34 6 / +27 7 / +27 8)
- You are asked to pay money after you supposedly won but before you can get the money.
- The lottery is supposedly sponsored by Microsoft, Dell, Pepsi or other major companies that don’t sponsor lotteries.

Notice the unusual sender address? Yukos is the company of Russian oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Yukosworld.com is a domain hosted by MSN that is not connected to the real Russian company. It was registered by Nigerian criminals for another 419 scam promising victims a share of millions in a secret foreign bank account of the company.
Here is a reply from the claims agent:

Emails from the real FreeLotto.com
Emails like the following (click link) are not connected to any 419 scam. They are nothing but misleading advertising by PlasmaNet/ FreeLotto. Such emails go out to thousands of recipients, many of whom contact us because they are suspecting this to be a fake lottery scam like the ones sent from Nigeria and other countries in West Africa.
The advertisement makes it sound like you won a million dollars while all they are trying to do is to get you to sign up for their “F.A.S.T” subscription service when you haven’t won a single cent yet. That subscription will cost you money every month. Read it carefully: Where it says “upon submitting the winning entry” it means, yes, you would indeed get that money if you ever were to win!. The chances of that are quite remote, as in all lotteries.
If you receive one of these emails and ask the FreeLotto help desk about it, they will indeed confirm that it’s just an ad and not a winning notification:
Thank you for your note to the FreeLotto Helpdesk.
The email you received is a promotion for our FAST service. It was not a win
If you review the email you received, it states that you are qualified to win

Daily Jackpot game in order to win the grand prize. You can view our rules at
We are also offering you to activate a FreeLotto FAST subscription. With a
