History of the New Hampshire Lottery
You never get anywhere if you’re not persistent, and persistent is exactly what Representative Larry Pickett was. Over the course of 10 years, he proposed five separate bills that would establish a sweepstakes to raise money for education. Time after time, he was defeated – but he never gave up. In 1963, his efforts paid off when a bill establishing a sweepstakes was passed and eventually signed into law. Tickets went on sale on March 12th, 1964.
Powerball tickets went on sale in 1995 and the state joined Mega Millions in January 2010. Over $1.6 billion has been allocated to educational initiatives in New Hampshire since the lottery began all those years ago, and that number will only continue to grow.

CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Lottery announced today that a winning Tri-State “Gimme 5” ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven at 730 Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack. This latest Gimme 5 winner, which was drawn on May 18, 2016, marks the fourth top prize winning ticket sold in New Hampshire so far this year, according to officials. There have now been 21 top prize winning Gimme 5 tickets sold in New Hampshire since the game launched in May 2013.
“With four top prize winners in New Hampshire already this year, Gimme 5 is providing plenty of action for our players,” said Charlie McIntyre, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. “We are thrilled to have another top prize winning Gimme 5 ticket sold here in New Hampshire and we are looking forward to meeting our latest winner. If you bought a Gimme 5 ticket at the 7-Eleven on Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack for last night’s drawing, you just might be holding a winner.”
The winning numbers from last night’s drawing were: 8-13-16-18-23.
Tri State Gimme 5 is offered in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. With New Hampshire’s Gimme 5 winner last night, there have now been a total of 36 Gimme 5 top prize winners between the three states since the game launched four years ago.
Gimme 5 top prize winners receive $75,000 after taxes, according to McIntyre.
Most recently, a winning $100,000 Gimme 5 ticket was sold at the Rite Aid at 360 Summer St. in Bristol for the drawing on March 14.
Gimme 5 players choose five numbers from 1 to 39, or ask for an Easy Pick. If players match all five winning numbers, they win the top prize of $100,000. Match four winning numbers and win $250, match three winning numbers and win $7, and match 2 winning numbers and win $2. Tickets cost $1. Gimme 5 drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:55 p.m.
