Because of potential waning sales in the midst of closures and lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic, lottery officials for both Mega Millions and Powerball in early April reported the new starting point for the jackpots would revert to $20 million, from the current $40 million.
But since no one has matched all six numbers in that time frame for the Mega Millions, that idea has become moot for now. Someone did, however, win $190 million in the April 8 Powerball drawing. That ticket is still unclaimed.
