Scratch-off Ohio Lottery games took off during coronavirus closings

Scratch-off Ohio Lottery ticket sales increased during COVID-19-related business closings in the state. Ohio Lottery Commission

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Scratch-off Ohio Lottery tickets became so popular during the coronavirus crisis that money from those ticket sales helped overcome lottery losses from the temporary closings of bars, where Keno is often played, and the state’s seven racinos.

The Ohio Lottery Commission reported Wednesday that total sales from traditional lottery games closed out the fiscal year on June 30 up $111 million from the previous year, while lottery revenue from the slots-like video machines at the seven racinos was down nearly $80 million.

Director Pat McDonald told board members during the lottery’s monthly video conference meeting that the scratch-off tickets essentially became the “only game in town.”

Scratch-off sales totaled $148 million in February — the last full month before Gov. Mike DeWine began closing businesses — then increased to $162 million in April and to $216 million in May.

The reverse occurred with Keno. Sales dropped from $42 million in February to $16 million in April, recovering some to $28 million in May. The racinos were closed for three months, from mid-March through mid-June, generating no money during that time.

The lottery during the fiscal year transferred $1.127 billion for use as part of the state’s contribution to school funding, up slightly from the $1.126 billion that had been projected.

* Draw-based games had sales of $1.598 billion, down from $1.698 billion in the previous fiscal year.

* Scratch-off games had sales of $1.874 billion, up from $1.663 billion.

* The lottery share of money from the slots-like video terminals in the racinos was $275 million, down from $355 million.

Note: This story has been updated to correct the overall dollar amounts for the year for the draw-based and scratch-off games.

Actually the code for $500 is FUN, Ive won them twice and it was FUN

I won 500.00 in Ohio once and the code was FUN

Thanks… The page has been updated.

Chris and Larry are correct. FUN = $500, FFY = $50, TWN = $20, TEN = $10. Although they are not always in that particular order so if you have a NUF, check it b4 chuck it. Unfortunately, I don’t know what the larger codes are, that’s what I was actually trying to find out. I have a RVN and a WRN on the Bingo style and just double checking before tossing.

Thanks – Winning prize amounts above $599 have three random letters that do not form a word.

-$500 is FUN
-$200 is TUN
-$100 is 90% of the time HUN but on some $20 dollar tickets i’ve seen HNR and one time strangely HYN
-$50 I have seen FIF on occasion

Also,
-$40.00 is FRT
-$30.00 is THR

FIFTY (50) IS FFY

it is fun when you win that much on a scratch off! one time on a $5 ticket i thought i won $25 but the code was for $50 and when i cashed it in sure enough i won $50. the clerk at the gas station was just as baffled as i was that they madew such a mistake. i thought it was all computer generated and error proof so now i use the little check it yourself machine just to be sure. people who throw them away based on the codes are stupid and live up to the saying that the lottery is a fine/tax for stupid people

I got a code FNT today on a bingo tripler. It was 15.00

Thanks – The page has been updated.

what is the code for 75.00 i had a ticket the other day that was SFT i thought for sure it was seventy five and it was nothing

I have a Ohio Bingo X Ten card with the letters

You are very welcome!! Love your page! I was thinking maybe you should post the most common losing codes too… there is about 5 or 6 of them I get all the time!

I’m glad you like the site. Do you use facebook? If so, you should check it out: http://www.facebook.com/scratchoffcodes

I’ve removed the $1000 code, because I don’t think that’s correct.

Maybe FifteeN Tripled? =FNT

I had a $75 winning ticket and the letters were svf

Thanks – I’ve updated the page.

Every code in Ohio for winners over $500 dollars are totally random. I’ve won a TPD+5,500 and the code was WVY. A 1,000 on 10 dollar ticket and it was FHN. Which comes up a lot on 10 and 20 dollar tickets. Also the store get most of my tickets at keeps the big winners, hundreds of them, and all the codes are random losing codes you would see on losing tickets. I’m sure you have seen these at your stores. ALWAYS play bingo’s and games which require you to scratch tickets off. Because of this Games like Jokers Wild, Slingo and Cashword games look great because the top prizes are thrown away and not claimed. I see Bingo games with just the code scrached off all the time on the ground!

$8 is GET, TEG, TGE, GTE, EGT, OR ETG

Thanks – I’ve updated the page.

Got HVY and it was $125
