powerball numbers for august 23rd 2020

Here are the winning numbers for Wednesday’s record $700 million Powerball

6, 7, 16, 23, 26, and Powerball 4.

One winning jackpot ticket, worth $759 million, was sold in Chicopee, Massachusetts, CNN reported.

The jackpot is the second-largest in US history. The record, set in 2016, is $1.5 billion.

Powerball drawings happen every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. Before this Wednesday’s drawing, there had been 21 consecutive ones without a winner.

If you won Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing, try to resist the urge to tell everyone you know — there will be many people who want a piece of the pie. Hire a lawyer who can help you figure out how to claim your winnings and protect your privacy.

You’ll have a choice to claim your winnings in the form of a lump sum or an annuity. The annuity is a series of 30 annual payments, which increase by 5% each year.

Choosing the lump sum might sound tempting, but you’ll get less than the face value of the prize. The cash payout is about $480 million.

Business Insider’s resident personal-finance expert, Lauren Lyons Cole, recommends taking the series of payouts as opposed to the lump sum.

“Most people would do better to choose the annuity rather than the lump sum,” she wrote. “Unless you’re supremely good with money and already have a team of advisers who have proved themselves over time, the annuity is the more cautious choice.”

The billionaire Mark Cuban agrees.

There have been plenty of stories about lottery winners who have seen their lives fall apart after the cash windfall. And some studies have found that lottery winners often have a harder time finding enjoyment in life after winning.

The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.

And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.

If you’d like to be the next player from Michigan to win a huge lottery prize, take a look at these tips from lottery expert Richard Lustig. The author of “Learn How To Increase Your Chances Of Winning The Lottery” has won more than $1 million in Florida by winning top jackpot prizes in smaller games.
