Results view

Overview

When you run a query in CodeQL for Eclipse , the results are displayed in the Results view. This view shows the results using various display styles and lets you interact with the results, for example by comparing and exporting them .

Displaying the Results view

  1. Click Window > Show View > Other to display the Show View dialog box.
  2. Select Semmle > Results .
  3. Click OK to close the dialog box.

The Results view consists of two panels:

  1. Result History —shown on the left. Displays the results of queries run during the current Eclipse session. They are sorted either by runtime and database used, or by query.
  2. Results —shown on the right. Displays the results of any query you click in the Result history panel.

Result history

The toolbar in the Result history panel includes the following commands:

Hide any queries that returned no results.

In addition, if you right-click a query in the Result history panel then the following commands are available:

Remove the currently selected query from the Result history panel.

Results

Display styles

The Results view displays the results of the currently selected queries. By default, the results are displayed in the Table display style. Depending on the form of the results, you can change the display style by clicking the buttons in the top right corner of the Results view.

A display style button is only visible if the style is available for the currently selected query, so you may not see all of the following options.

Each row contains a result and its location, as above. Where results share the same location they are grouped into a single row. External results (which are not in the source code) are filtered out.

where is the location of an entity identified by the query, Number is a numeric result, String is a text result and square brackets indicate an optional element.

Available actions

If a result refers to a source code element, you can double-click the result to show it in the project’s source code.

To exclude certain results from the Results view, you can run a filter query on the results of a previous query. See Filtering results for more information.

If you are using the Table or Problems display style, you can also export the results.
