A $500 million Powerball jackpot drawing is scheduled for 10:59 p.m. ET tonight, Wednesday, January 6.

Millions of people have purchased lottery tickets as excitement for the Powerball drawing builds, driving the estimated prize up to $500 million from $450 million earlier on Wednesday.

In the Syracuse area, you can tune in to watch the Powerball drawing live on WSYR-TV, channel 9. It’s also available on Channel 1200 for Time Warner Cable customers and in HD on channel 509 for Verizon FiOS customers. If you’re outside the area, you can find your local Powerball drawing channel at Powerball.com.

You can also live stream the drawing online at Powerball-MegaMillions.com.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Peuto Rico. They are not sold in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah.

Marketwatch reports that ticket sales stop 59 minutes before the drawing, but may end earlier in some states.

This jackpot is currently the sixth largest ever offered in North America, and the largest since last February’s $564.1 million jackpot, which was split between players from North Carolina, Texas and Peurto Rico. The largest jackpot ever was $590 million won in May 2013.
